On Jan­u­ary 10, 2016, David Bowie died peace­ful­ly sur­round­ed by his fam­i­ly after a coura­geous 18 month bat­tle with can­cer. The news was announced on Bowie’s Face­book page.
The news was con­firmed by The Hol­ly­wood Reporter. Dun­can Jones (Bowie’s son), also con­firmed it over Twit­ter.

Bowie’s death was unex­pect­ed, giv­en his med­ical con­di­tion was not pub­lished to the media.

While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s pri­va­cy dur­ing their time of grief.

David Bowie was an Eng­lish singer, song­writer, mul­ti-instru­men­tal­ist, record pro­duc­er, arranger, painter, and actor. Bowie was known as an inno­va­tor and was par­tic­u­lar­ly known for his work from the ’70s. Bowie’s lat­est album, Black­star, was released last week on his birthday.

The world has lost one of the most, if not the most influ­en­tial artists of all time. Bowie was sur­vived by his wife Iman, his son Dun­can Jones and daugh­ter Alexan­dria Zahra Jones.
