David Bowie releases new album “Blackstar“1 min read

On the 8th of Jan­u­ary 2016, David Bowie released his twen­ty-fifth stu­dio album “Black­star” (styl­ized as ★) through Bowie’s ISO Records label. The album was released on the date of Bowie’s 69th birth­day. The title track was released as a Music Video on 20 Novem­ber 2015. On 17 Decem­ber 2015, “Lazarus” was released an audio-only track on YouTube and was lat­er pre­miered as a Music Video on YouTube.

Background and recording

The record­ing of the album took place at The Mag­ic Shop and Human World­wide Stu­dios in New York City. Bowie began mak­ing demos for songs that appear on the album as soon as the ses­sions for The Next Day con­clud­ed. Two songs that appear on the album were pre­vi­ous­ly released and were re-record­ed for the album, includ­ing some changes such as new instru­ment tracks.
